TO THE PNM WHO...

...IS FROM OUT OF STATE
I came to UIUC knowing nobody as a person from Maryland... As soon as I stepped into AEPhi, I knew that it would be an easier transition than I thought. The members of AEPhi are super supportive and always want me to be the best version of myself that l can be.
Love,
LILY

To the PMN who is worried about joining a sorority and not "looking the part." When I went through recruitment, I was really worried about fitting the "sorority girl" image. However, it was through recruitment that I realized sororities are so much more than what you see online or in the media. Each sister is unique to herself. In her style, her personality, and her endeavors. The best part about joining a sorority has been seeing how special each of my sisters are. I knew i found my house when I felt like I didn't have to pretend to be someone else. That's the whole point of sororities, to find a group of people you can be yourself around.
Love,
Hallie

...WENT TO OVERNIGHT CAMP
Growing up, I went to an all girls overnight camp for 4 weeks every summer!! I absolutely loved it and made so many close friends through it. Eventually, I was too old to go back and really missed it. After I committed to Illinois, I knew that I wanted to rush and join a sorority as it would give me something similar to the group of friends I met at camp. I have met such a nice group of girls through AEPhi, something I was really excited about. I loved living in a cabin with all my friends at camp and can't to live in the house this year!

...IS CLOSE TO THEIR FAMILY
...IS CLOSE TO THEIR FAMILY
Xoxo, Mackenzie
I knew for years that leaving my family for college would be difficult. We are very close, and I value my relationship with them above all else. But, I also knew that college was the right step for me. I wanted to find a place that felt like a second home. I wanted a place with kind and loyal girls, who accepted me for who I am. I found this in AEPhi. Since day one, all the girls at AEPhi have been inclusive, caring, supportive, and authentic. They supported me through my homesickness, and the college adjustment. Immediately after joining, I had a full support system I could turn too. I know it sounds corny, but I can honestly say that AEPhi is my second family. I couldn't ask for a better support system, and I am proud to be apart of this wonderful organization.
...ISN’T A FRESHMAN
To the PNM who's going through recruitment as a sophomore: l wasn't sure sorority life was right for me until I actually went through recruitment. I remember wondering if it was "too late" since I hadn't rushed as a freshman, but I couldn't have been more wrong. I found a group of girls who are genuine, who will cry with me, laugh with me, support me through every season of life, and make every day more fun. So if you're worried that you missed your chance, you haven't. Your people could be waiting for you, just like mine were waiting for me.
Xoxo,
Allie
...IS WORRIED ABOUT TIME
MANAGEMENT
I came into college worried that saying yes to a sorority meant saying no to other parts of my life. I didn't know how I would balance classes, get involved on campus, make friends, or finding time for myself. What I didn't expect was that AEPhi would become the reason I could balance it all. As a double major juggling leadership roles, internships, volunteering, and other campus commitments, life can get busy. But through every late night, stressful week, and exciting opportunity, I've always had sisters who were there to cheer me on, celebrate my successes, and remind me to give myself grace. Even though I can be super busy sometimes, AEPhi gives me something that I get to do instead of something that l have to do. The truth is, you'll never have everything perfectly balanced all the time, and that's okay. Having a support system that believes in you makes all the difference; and for me, that's my sisters.
Love,
Riya
